Youth Consultation for Park Development
In 2024, Cam Parish Council proudly delivered a youth-led community consultation project designed to reimagine public space through the eyes of young people.
Recognising that previous investments had primarily focused on toddlers and younger children—with over £100,000 invested in local play areas—the Council set its sights on further inclusion: improving facilities for young people aged 11–17.
To ensure that these developments will be meaningful, inclusive, and inspired directly by youth, the Council appointed The Door to engage with young people in the Parish. The consultant worked closely with local schools, youth groups, and park users to gather fresh ideas, creative input, and design aspirations from the very people the new space would serve.
Through a series of inspiring, hands-on workshops, young residents shared their thoughts on what makes a recreational space feel welcoming, exciting, and relevant. Their feedback was documented through creative sessions, questionnaires, and summary reports—all of which were presented to Cam Parish Council to help shape the future design of the teen section of the park.
This project wasn’t just about redesigning a park—it was about building trust and opening channels for genuine youth voice in community planning. It brought together generations and reinforced Cam’s commitment to community cohesion, inclusion, and forward-thinking development.
Thanks to this initiative, young people in Cam played a direct role in shaping a space that truly belongs to them—reflecting their needs, creativity, and sense of belonging.
Watch this space! The new youth-designed installation will be coming soon to Jubilee Playing Field—a lasting legacy of collaboration, imagination, and community spirit.
