We’re encouraging local children to get involved in our future plans for the Rackleaze Nature Area and tell us what they think is most important for wildlife in Cam.
Our new “Help Build Rackleaze’s Next Wildlife Wonder!” activity sheet gives children the chance to:
- Vote for the wildlife improvement they would most like to see
- Design their very own wildlife pond
- Colour a wildflower meadow
- Create homes for bats, birds and bugs
- Take on the Wildlife Spotter Challenge

Why is Rackleaze so important?
Tucked away behind Tesco, Rackleaze Wetland is a much-loved haven for wildlife and an important green space for Cam. It is also a working wetland, helping to manage excess water from the Tesco car park while providing a valuable habitat for wildlife.
Cam Parish Council has leased the site from Tesco since 2003 and, through its partnership with Stroud Valley Projects, has helped manage and improve the area for both wildlife and the local community. Improvements over the years have included a boardwalk and hedge laying, helping make the site more accessible and beneficial for nature.
Today, Rackleaze is enjoyed by dog walkers, birdwatchers, photographers and families looking for a peaceful place to explore. It may still feel like one of Cam’s hidden secrets, but it’s yours to discover, enjoy and help shape for the future.
