Cam Parish Council has elected a new Chair of the council with Jonathan Fulcher taking over the role at the first meeting held since the May elections. Miranda Clifton is the new Vice-Chair.
Jon said the new appointment was a great honour and very humbling and vowed to bring fresh energy to the position while progressing exciting council projects and building on the community involvement and outreach championed by his predecessors.
Two new councillors, Kathleen Hanbury and Victoria Gray, have also joined the team at Cam Parish Council.
As volunteers, Jon said councillors selflessly give up their time and energies to serve the community. He paid tribute to the outgoing Chair Christina Carter for her effort and skill as part of the steering group who delivered the Neighbourhood Development Plan, which is a document giving the council and its community more control and a bigger voice on how the parish is developed in the future.
Jon joined Cam Parish Council is 2019 and has a background of charity work and nature conservation. As Chair, he said he would continue to be involved in projects close to his heart such as the enhancing and improving of Jubilee Playing Field and raising the profile of green spaces such as the Rackleaze nature area behind Tesco in Cam.
He added: “At the same time my fellow councillors and I take on the challenges posed by building developments in and around Cam, including the pressures they bring for people and nature, and try to address hopes and fears as Covid-19 restrictions ease, which will inevitably leave people facing a wide range of emotions and practical difficulties.
“Key to our community’s success will be how we face up to these hurdles but with renewed vigour and optimism Cam Parish Council and it’s devoted and hard-working staff will seek to support residents, community groups and businesses and endeavour to engage with people, police and local champions to a much greater extent than has been possible over the last 14-months.”
