Cobalt Health (Cobalt) is a medical charity providing diagnostic imaging to support the NHS and other healthcare providers. Its story began in 1964 when Founder Dr Fred Hanna began raising money for a machine to treat cancer and a facility to house it. Fred Hanna had foresight, enthusiasm and energy and was passionate about improving health through early detection and the dissemination of knowledge. Since then, Cobolt has developed into a state-of-the-art facility supporting the needs of over 115,000 patients each year through Imaging Centres in Cheltenham and Birmingham, and through a fleet of mobile MRI, PET/CT and CT scanners.
Volunteers are vitally important to Cobalt and new volunteers are always welcome. They help at events, upcycle cards, help in the busy Fundraising Office or at home by baking and knitting.
Each year, Cobolt host a celebration event to honour their wonderful volunteers and the vital role they play. This year was especially important for local volunteer and community champion Ronnie Harding who was presented with the Fred Hanna Award in recognition of outstanding volunteering efforts. The award was presented by Cobolt President Howard Crooks. Ronnie was described as ‘a card seller and fundraiser extraordinaire. From arranging the sale of cards in coffee shops, medical centres, local businesses and organising her own events and working with others, she has undertaken volunteering for Cobalt often getting the Lions involved, for over thirty years.’
Thank you Ronnie for all you do. Thanks also to all of those who buy the charity cards from the Cam Parish Council Office. Cards are available at just £1 each and all proceeds help people affected by cancer and dementia.
